Marthen Tahun completed his M.A. from the Center for Religious and Cross-cultural Studies (CRCS), a graduate School of Gadjah Mada University Yogyakarta, Indonesia, in 2007. His master theses analyzes the aspect of religion in the Ambon Conflict, 1999-2002. In August 2010 he become a research staff members of CRCS Gadjah Mada University Yogyakarta. From 2010 to 2012 Marthen was a member of the coordinating team for a research of the growing Pentecostal Charismatic Movement in Indonesia, a two years research in five different cities in Indonesia.

Previous to that Marthen joint several non profit organizations that deals with issues such as religion and Art through Asian Christian Art Association (1999-2007) and peace issues in community social integration programs through the American Friends Service Community (AFSC) Indonesia (2008-2010). In AFSC Indonesia he was involved in a social integration project among local people in West Timor (Indonesia) and the ex-refugees groups from East Timor (the former Timor Leste) living in the West Timor.
