Every religions or beliefs have a group that tend to purify their tenets, to eliminate the sincretic aspects, to sort between local tradition and universal teaching. Within this circumstances, the existence of society with hybrid identity poses as a threat, it becomes thorn in the flesh. On the other hand, as shown throught out history, the presence of hibridity among multicultur and heterogen society is inevitable. One of them are Buddha Jawa community in Jatimulyo, Kulon Progo who become a learning space for @candradvii in exploring hybrid identity in Javanese community.

This time @umakusumadewi will share how Muslims in Indonesia deal with the Hajj and Umrah during the pandemic using technology. This finding sparked further discussion about the meaning of sacred space, body and self-presence in religious practice.

1st Day ICIR 2024

The first day brought together academics and practitioners from various backgrounds across continents through keynote speeches, two plenaries, talk shows and cultural nights. There were also 3 on-site and online panels elaborating on various issues and case studies related to performing democracy.
