ABOUT  THE WEDFORUM

Wedforum is aimed to encourage students, faculty, visiting scholars, and researchers especially in CRCS & ICRS to share their researches and develop an ongoing discourse related to their various academic fields, such as the comparative study of religion, cultural and historical studies of religion, interfaith dialogue, gender, pop?culture, hermeneutics, peace building, and other related topics. The twelfth Series of the CRCS?ICRS WedForum will start on September 12, 2012. We invite all CRCS & ICRS faculty, students, and researchers to request a date to present her/his work at the WedForum. Presentations may include published articles, course papers, working papers, research findings, dissertation proposals, theses, etc.

Religion got more attention since the 9/11 tragedy. The media started writing about religious issue while the journalists got more interested in writing “feature” of religious stories. Nowadays, people can find specific column on religion in almost every mass media. This phenomenon gives more chances for people to access more information about religious issues Media and religion influence each other. However, this relation is not always easily and harmoniously carried out.

Realizing the importance of relation between media and religion, CRCS-ICRS presented Mr. Endy M. Bayuni to become the speaker in Wednesday Forum; the topic was “Religion and Media” and was heldon Wednesday, February 15, 2012.

‘Gerakan Pentakosta itu ibarat aliran musik Jazz”, demikian tutur Prof. William Kay saat menjadi pembicara di Wednesday Forum CRCS-ICRS 11 April 2012 lalu. Gerakan Pentakosta merupakan gerakan revitalisasi Kristen yang menguat di berbagai belahan dunia akhir-akhir ini. Diumpamakan seperti musik jazz yang penuh improvisasi, Pentakosta memberikan keleluasaan kepada umat untuk ambil bagian dalam perkara-perkara yang berhubungan dengan peribadatan agama.

Prof. William Kay merupakan seorang pendeta sekaligus professor teologi dengan spesifikasi studi gerakan Pentakosta dan Kharismatik di Glynd?r University, Wales. Saat ini, ia tengah menyelesaikan penelitian mengenai gerakan Pentakosta di Hong Kong, Singapura dan Malaysia.

Wednesday forum is a weekly public discussion on various topics of religion and culture organized by CRCS and Indonesian Consortium for Religious Studies (ICRS). The forum is held every Wednesday at 12.30 – 2.30 PM in room 306 (3rd floor) of UGM graduate school building. Since 2002 many scholars, students, and researchers worldwide have presented their papers or on-going research in this forum.

Anyone who wants to make a presentation in this forum should fill out the Wedforum-form and send it to wednesdayforum@yahoo.com and crcs@ugm.ac.id.

Keberadaan berbagai agama di bumi Indonesia yang telah eksis sebelum proklamasi kemerdekaan, memberi dampak yang besar terhadap berbagai produk kebijakan publik. Sebagai agama yang dipeluk oleh mayoritas penduduk Indonesia, Islam menjadi kendaraan ‘terfavorit’ bagi banyak kalangan untuk menyelipkan berbagai ajaran yang mereka anggap ‘Islami’ dalam berbagai peraturan-peraturan yang ada. Setidaknya ada tiga produk hukum di Indonesia yang disinyalir memiliki tendensi Islamisasi yang berlebihan dan tampak eksklusif sedang dibahas di Legislatif: RUU Jaminan Produk Halal , RUU Zakat, dan RUU Manajemen Haji. Selain itu, argumen-argumen agama, terutama Islam, juga mengambil peran penting di dalam Undang-Undang Anti Pornografi dan Pornoaksi, UU Pernikahan serta RUU Kerukunan Antar Umat Beragama.
