Marthen Tahun completed his M.A. from the Center for Religious and Cross-cultural Studies (CRCS), a graduate School of Gadjah Mada University Yogyakarta, Indonesia, in 2007. His master theses analyzes the aspect of religion in the Ambon Conflict, 1999-2002. In August 2010 he become a research staff members of CRCS Gadjah Mada University Yogyakarta. From 2010 to 2012 Marthen was a member of the coordinating team for a research of the growing Pentecostal Charismatic Movement in Indonesia, a two years research in five different cities in Indonesia.
Previous to that Marthen joined several non-profit organizations that deal with issues such as religion and art through Asian Christian Art Association (1999-2007) and peace issues in community social integration programs through the American Friends Service Community (AFSC) Indonesia (2008-2010). In AFSC Indonesia he was involved in a social integration project among local people in West Timor (Indonesia) and the ex-refugees groups from East Timor (the former Timor Leste) living in the West Timor.
