Time: 12.30 pm – 2.30 pm (free lunch)
Venue: Room 306, UGM Graduate School Teknika Utara, Pogung
Speaker: Dr. Nelly van Doorn-Harder

Abstract:

Reacting to internal needs for reform and external pressures from radical Muslim groups, a revival movement has been developing within the Coptic Orthodox Church of Egypt since the second half of the twentieth century.

Concurrently strengthening religious and Egyptian identity, Copts engaged in remembering and re-inventing their past, infusing the present with newly found collective memories.

New themes and representations thus produced resulted in new forms of Coptic visual culture which opened up venues for women to take on active roles in these reform processes. This talk will present some of the strategies used by Coptic women to strengthen their position and agency in a traditionally male-oriented church.

Registration:

The forum is free of charge and on a first-come-first serve basis.

About the Speaker:

L A B E L Seberapa penting sebuah label? Bagi makh L A B E L
Seberapa penting sebuah label? Kalau kata teman yang alumni dusun Inggris , "label is rebel!"
