Kuliah Umum: Belajar dari "The Imam and the Pastor"

Pada 1990-an, Imam Muhammad Ashafa dan Pastor James Wuye memimpin dua kelompok milisi yang saling berperang di Nigeria. “Kebencian saya terhadap Muslim waktu itu tak terbatas,” kata Pastor James, yang kelompoknya membunuh guru Imam Ashafa dan dua sepupunya. Tiga tahun Imam Ashafa merencanakan aksi balas dendam, hingga suatu hari khotbah Jumat tentang aksi memaafkan Nabi Muhammad mengubah hidupnya.
Imam dan Pastor itu lalu bertemu, saling memaafkan, dan bekerjasama mengatasi konflik-konflik bernuansa agama dan etnis. Melalui Pusat Mediasi Antariman (Interfaith Mediation Center), lembaga yang mereka dirikan, keduanya berjasa mengembangkan bina-damai dan tatakelola pemerintahan yang inklusif tidak saja di Nigeria atau Afrika, tapi juga dunia.
Kuliah umum bersama mereka akan diadakan di Jakarta dan Yogyakarta. Acara ini diselenggarakan atas kerja sama Pusat Studi Agama dan Demokrasi (PUSAD) Paramadina, Lembaga Antar-Iman Maluku, Program Studi Agama dan Lintas Budaya (CRCS) UGM, Magister Perdamaian dan Resolusi Konflik (MPRK) UGM, Tanenbaum Foundation, dan Yayasan Tifa.
