Learning to Love Islam: A Seminary President’s Journey
Wednesday Forum – 13 Nov 2019
Can a Christian love Islam? Should Christians not be wary of such an idea? In this talk, President of Hartford Seminary Joel Lohr shares some of his journey in relation to interreligious dialogue, beginning with Judaism and then Islam. Using stories and examples from his life, as well as outlining the challenges and blessings of running a historically Christian seminary committed to being in conversation with Islam, Lohr explains why he feels a sense of Christian duty—inspired by a commitment to follow Jesus—to engage deeply with Muslims and Islam. As part of the presentation, President Lohr will also share details about Hartford Seminary, its history, and programs.
