As UKDW is part of our partner institution, this week Wednesday Forum (Wedforum) will be held in Christian University of Duta Wacana or UKDW (Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana), Jogjakarta. We will discuss Islam and Muslim in America with an American muslim exchange student at CRCS and ICRS. Come and join us, it’s free and open for everybody.

Abstract
There are estimated to be 6 – 7 million Muslims living in America and the number is growing rapidly through immigration, conversion, and the birth of a new generation. During this Wednesday Forum Jaye will provide an overview of American Muslim demographics and history with a look at the rapidly expanding institutions and cultural contributions. Special attention will be given to the experiences of Muslim women, the impact of September 11th and the well-funded strategic anti-Muslim/Islam campaigns.

Speaker
Jaye Starr is a visiting Henry Luce Exchange Student with the ICRS/CRCS programs. She is an American Muslim pursuing her Master’s degree in Islamic Studies & Christian-Muslim Relations and a Graduate Certificate in Chaplaincy through Hartford Seminary. Hartford Seminary is a multi-faith graduate education institution internationally renowned for its engagement with interfaith dialogue.  Upon completion of her studies, Jaye hopes to do peace-building work with refugee resettlement populations living in the Untied States.
